Weaners in Southern Queensland and New England
At the time of weaning, young cattle may not have a fully functional rumen – it can be relatively small in capacity and with an immature supply of microbes used for digestion. To help augment this, weaners should have access to a supplement with the following attributes:
- Low levels of urea
- High levels of vegetable protein
- Highly palatable
- Balanced for calcium and phosphorus
- Contains monensin or lasalocid for prevention of coccidiosis. These products also have registered claims for growth rate and feed conversion.
